Over 100,000 Iranian opposition supporters rallied in France on Saturday, July 9th, for an annual grand gathering demanding regime change in Iran and encouraging the West to adopt a more firm policy line vis-à-vis Iran considering its flagrant human rights violations, lethal meddling in Syria, Iraq and beyond.
The rally, led by the main and highly influential Iranian opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, involved speeches and attendance by hundreds of current and former officials from the United States, Europe, the Middle East and beyond, all of whom joined voice to demand regime change and the toppling of the mullahs in Iran.NCRI President Maryam Rajavi enjoys the massive support of Iranians exiled across the globe, resembling their only hope for the establishment of freedom and democracy in their homeland. In her powerful speech, she criticized the US policy toward the Iranian government saying:
“U.S. policy on Iran, and consequently on the Middle East, has jumped from one mistake into the next: From the notion of empowering bogus moderates to blacklisting the PMOI, thereby blocking the path to change in Iran, to remaining silent vis-à-vis the 2009 uprising, thereby enabling the religious dictatorship. This policy has brought calamity to our nations and crisis to America.”
She offered her solution to correct this policy adding:
“We offer a solution that is the only effective option, and the most indispensable and attainable solution: the right of the Iranian people to overthrow the religious dictatorship and attain freedom and democracy must be recognized. This solution does not merely benefit the Iranian people. It also amounts to a breakthrough for the region and for the world.”
The slate of high profiles consisted of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Govs. Howard Dean, Bill Richardson, and Tom Ridge, along with former FBI Director Louis Freeh, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and a host of others attended this event. Among them, Robert Joseph could be seen, United States Special Envoy for Nuclear Nonproliferation and the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security until 2007.
“We have learned that we must change course dramatically and we must realize that the regime will not moderate, he advised. We must pressure them and deny them access to the international financial system. We must respond to Iranian adventurism in Syria and we need to counter its destabilizing activities in the Middle East. We must stand up to their violations of the nuclear deal,” he said. However, Joseph said that the most important thing we can do is support the Iranian opposition led by Maryam Rajavi.
Event organizers have announced more than 100,000 Iranian expatriates had participated in the rally, as the fairground and convention center in Le Bourget located near Paris, was packed with enthusiastic Iranians and their friends, eager to show their support for the Iranian opposition and call for regime change in Iran.
